The R1 matters because a modern bipedal humanoid has crossed into a price range that private UK buyers can realistically contemplate. Its present usefulness in an older person's home is much more limited. Around one hour of battery life, limited manipulation on consumer versions and the absence of evidence for unsupervised care make it a development and experimentation platform rather than a care appliance.

Warranty, development access and support
Unitree publishes different warranty periods by configuration: six months for R1 Air, eight months for R1 and twelve months for R1 EDU.
Unitree states that R1 Air and standard R1 do not support secondary development. Buyers wanting custom development access are directed to the EDU edition.
