The G1 is important because it puts capable bipedal hardware, depth sensing, LiDAR and roughly two-hour runtime into a machine that organisations and individuals can actually order. Its basic configuration still has fixed hands, no secondary-development support and no evidence of safe unsupervised elder care. The EDU family is much more interesting for researchers because it can add dexterous hands, extra joints and development access, but that also pushes the price well beyond the headline US$13,500 figure.
